China finishes 85% of coal overcapacity cutback target of 2017
China has retired 128 Mtpa of coal capacity or 85% of the 2017 target by end of July this year, with 17 Mtpa of the outdated capacity kicked out in the month, showed data from China National Coal Association.
Seven provinces have beaten their own annual de-capacity target by end-July, including Inner Mongolia, Liaoning, Jiangsu, Fujian, Henan, Guangxi and Chongqing.
China ups pressure on North Korea with ban on coal imports
China announced it will halt part of imports from North Korea on August 14, as it implemented a package of sanctions passed by the United Nations Security Council on August 6.
China will completely stop imports of North Korean coal, iron, iron ore, lead, lead ore and seafood starting from August 15, said the Ministry of Commerce in an announcement.
China prolongs customs clearance for Mongolian coal
The customs clearance for Mongolian coking coal imported into China has been prolonged since the Naadam Festival in Mongolia in mid-July.
It now takes at least one month to finish customs clearance at Ganqimaodu border crossing, a much longer period compared with previous two weeks, market sources told sxcoal.com.
China Jul raw coal output decreases 4.53pct MoM, NBS
China produced 294.38 million tonnes of raw coal in July, rising 8.5% year on year, compared with an increase of 10.6% a month earlier, showed data from the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) on August 14.
The output was 13.97 million tonnes or 4.53% lower than the month-ago level, data showed.
China coal industry FAI up 1.6% on yr in Jan-Jul, NBS
China's fixed-asset investment (FAI) in coal mining and washing industry amounted to 141.3 billion yuan ($21.21 billion) in the first seven months this year, up 1.6% from the previous year, showed data from the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) on August 14.
That's the second consecutive year-on-year increase for the industry's year-to-date FAI, following a 35-consecutive-month decline since May 2014 (no data in Januaries, excluded).
China Jul coal imports from Gladstone port up 11pct on yr
China's coal imports from Australia's Gladstone port increased 11% year on year to 1.17 million tonnes in July, showed data from Gladstone Ports Corporation.
Total coal exports through Gladstone stood at 6.05 million tonnes during the same period, edging up 6% over the year but dipping 3.43% over the month.
Shanxi halts coal mines after landslide accident; supply may tighten
North China's coal-rich Shanxi province has ordered production halts at coal mines, mainly opencast mines, operating in Heshun County, Jinzhong city, after a deadly landside accident.
The landside caused four deaths and five missing at the opencast mine of Luxin Coal Industry Co., Ltd, which was 51% owned by state-owned Jinneng Group, on August 11.
Shaanxi Jul raw coal output gains 9.38pct on yr
Shaanxi province, one major production base in northwestern China, produced 46.6 million tonnes of raw coal in July, gaining 9.38% year on year and 9.98% from June, showed data from the Shaanxi Administration of Coal Mine Safety on August 14.
Shaanxi's raw coal output stood at 277.48 million tonnes over January-July, climbing 16.36% from the year-ago level, data showed.
Hebei to meet capacity cutting targets by end-Sep
China's top steel-making province has pledged to fulfil capacity cutting targets for this year in steel, cement, coal and glass by the end of September, under efforts to tackle air pollution ahead of winter, an environment official said on August 16.
Hebei, close to the capital Beijing, has eliminated 12.26 million tonnes of ironmaking capacity and 10.53 million tonnes of steelmaking capacity in the first seven months of the year, Yin Guangping, a spokesman for the province's Environmental Protection Bureau, told a press conference on August 16.
China Shenhua gains approval of a mega coal mining area
China Shenhua Energy Co., Ltd, a listed arm of coal giant Shenhua Group, has gained approval from China's state planner to build a mega coal mining area in Inner Mongolia, said the company in a statement late August 11.
The National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) nodded the company to develop Xinjie Taigemiao mining area in Ordos city of Inner Mongolia into a mega coal mining region, as part of the country's efforts to rationally develop and utilize the coal resources in the region, said the commission.
China Shenhua Jul coal output down 1.3% YoY
China Shenhua Energy Co., Ltd, the listed arm of coal giant Shenhua Group, produced 23.3 million tonnes of commercial coal in July this year, falling 7.2% from the month-ago level and 1.3% year on year, the company announced in a statement late August 15.
Coal sales of the company stood at 34.4 million tonnes in July, down 10.2% from the preceding month but increasing 9.6% on the year.
China Coal Jul commercial coal output up 1.8pct on yr
China Coal Energy Co., Ltd, a listed arm of China National Coal Group, produced 6.84 million tonnes of commercial coal in July, increasing 1.8% year on year and up 9.6% month on month, said the company in a statement late August 15.
Its commercial coal production stood at 45.08 million tonnes in the first seven months, falling 4.3% from the preceding year, said the statement.
Shanxi Coking H1 net profit surge 2.2 times
Shanxi Coking Co., Ltd, a listed subsidiary of Shanxi Coking Coal Group, realized net profit of 19.89 million yuan ($2.98 million) in the first half of the year, skyrocketing 123.03% year on year, the company said in its semi-annual report on August 14.
During the same period, the company's operating revenue stood at 2.67 billion yuan, soaring 86.28% from the preceding year.
Bohai-rim ports Jul coal transport drops 5.2pct MoM
Eight transfer ports in Bohai-rim region transported a total 54.4 million tonnes of coal in July, decreasing 3 million tonnes or 5.2% from the month prior, showed the latest data.
The unexpected decline was mainly due to decreased coal inflows and outflows at these ports amid railway maintenances and adverse weather.
China's Jingtang port embraces first coal containers train
With hooting whistle piercing the silence, the first train loaded with coal containers arrived at northern China's Jingtang port on August 15, local media reported, marking coal trucks henceforth stepped down the stage of history.
The train was loaded 3,200 tonnes of coal in 100 open-top containers, equivalent to total transport volumes of 100 trucks.
