China consumed 794.2 TWh of electricity in March 2024, rising 7.4% on the year, according to data released by the National Energy Administration on April 17.
The primary industries, primarily the agricultural sector, recorded a 7.0% year-on-year increase to consume 9.6 TWh of electricity. The secondary industries, mainly the industrial sector, utilized 542.1 TWh of electricity, marking a 4.9% rise over the year. The tertiary industries, largely the service sector, used 136.5 TWh of electricity, up 11.6% from the year prior.
For the residential segment, power consumption in March also saw a 15.8% increase year on year to 106.0 TWh.
From January to March, China's power consumption grew 9.8% from a year earlier to 2,337.3 TWh. Power companies above designated size generated 2,237.2 TWh of electricity during the given period, data showed.
The non-residential sectors demonstrated varied growths. The primary, secondary and tertiary industries consumed 28.8 TWh (+9.7% YoY), 1,505.6 TWh (+8.0% YoY) and 423.5 TWh (+14.3% YoY) of electricity, respectively. The residential power consumption advanced by 12.0% year on year to 379.4 TWh.
