Central China's Hubei province consumed 24.87 TWh of electricity in January, rising 23.47% year on year, according to data from the local development and reform commission.

The primary industries, mainly the agricultural sector, consumed 257 GWh of electricity, rising 7.13% from the year-ago level; the secondary industries, mainly the industrial sector, used 13.96 TWh, up 35.52% on the year; the tertiary industries, mainly the service sector, used 5.26 TWh, up 29.35% from the previous year.

The residential power consumption was 5.40 TWh in the same month, decreasing 2.56% from the previous year, data showed.

The province's power generation was 22.62 TWh (excluding the volume contributed by Three Gorges) in January, a 21.02% increase on the year.

Hydropower plants generated 3.96 TWh of electricity (excluding the Three Gorges) in January, surging 95.35% from a year ago. Thermal power generation was 15.53 TWh, a year-on-year rise of 9.35%; wind power was 1.23 TWh, falling 8.74% from the previous year; solar energy generated 1.90 TWh, soaring 70.87%.
