The above-sized industrial enterprises (main business annual revenue above 20 million yuan) in Shandong saw coal consumption drop 4.9% from the preceding year in July, the sharpest decline in recent years.
Over January-July, Shandong province in eastern China maintained economic growth comfortably on course, and meanwhile its energy use slid from the same period last year.
The value added of equipment manufacturing industry rose by 11.3% year on year during the period. The industry has been a major pillar of the province's overall industries, with its contribution to industrial growth reaching 44%.
In the first half of 2017, China's energy consumption declined 4.2% for per 10,000 yuan of Gross Domestic Product (GDP), a faster fall compared with a 3.2% decline in the first quarter.
The new energy power generation totaled 14.1 TWh in Shandong in the first seven months of this year, a year-on-year increase of 15%.
